Default Why is the greyhound bus service the worst way to travel?

Everyone wants mass transit to save the planet but the monopoly of bus service 'greyhound' is the biggest piece of garbage company ever. The stations are dirty, the buses are dirty, and nothing runs on time. Is there anything that can be done to make them run a responsible business?
Is there any recourse? Maybe we should write our local papers and politicians, time to clean up greyhound!

My son rode greyhound back to Indiana from Texas last summer. The bus caught fire 2 hours outside of Dallas, they sat/slept for 6 hours at the side of the road while waiting for another bus to come for them. Luckily it was in the middle of the night so they didnt have to put up with the heat. They had no water, no food, no restrooms. Numerous other delays made them nearly a day late getting to Indianapolis. I could have driven to texas and gotten him and then back home in the time that it took them to get from there to here. Bad, bad customer service, nasty bus stations and the busses are not the newest or safest. We will never use or recommend them to anyone again.

Greyhound must be owned by the airlines.

They make it bad on purpose so that you'll fly instead of taking the bus -- unless you really are so poor that you have no choice.

And when you fly, no matter how poor the service is, you'll count your blessings that you're not on the bus.

"There is a famous example from the early days of the trains in France:

It is not because of the few thousand francs which would have to be spent to put a roof over the third-class carriage or to upholster the third-class seats that some company or other has open carriages with wooden benches ... What the company is trying to do is prevent the passengers who can pay the second-class fare from traveling third class; it hits the poor, not because it wants to hurt them, but to frighten the rich ... And it is again for the same reason that the companies, having proved almost cruel to the third-class passengers and mean to the second-class ones, become lavish in dealing with first-class customers. Having refused the poor what is necessary, they give the rich what is superfluous."
