Is photography a good career to get into these days and in the future, ie. landscape, travel, wildlife, etc?

Digital is so easy and fun for the masses that you will have much competition -- so -- you Have to be pretty good to succeed.

Not really. Photography should be considered by most a hobby not a profession.

Get into plumbing or optometry and then use those funds to do photography. Much more enjoyable.

It depends on what kind of photography you're interested in. A travel photographer can make pretty good money (or at least see some pretty amazing places) once they get established. Most travel places like it when their photographer takes pictures of off the beaten path stuff.

A portrait photographer can make a lot of money if they're good and have competitive prices.

As for photography as a career, photography may not be the best choice if it's your only source of income. Photography as a hobby is a better choice. A really well known photographer can still struggle depending on where they're based and if they're willing to travel or not.

I consider myself to be a photographer first and a stage hand and horse trainer second. I still need these other jobs to pay the bills, but I wish I could just live off of what I make as a photographer.
