I travel all over the world. It is not just one job, the assignments are generated by publications and based upon their experience with me on previous shoots or recommendations from photo editors they know, I get the job.
I have been through out the US and Caribbean, Africa, Asia and selected areas in Europe.
You have to have your own equipment (a $50,000 investment in cameras and lenses is not unusual) and have a well known reputation of being able to get the shot, anywhere in the world, using any camera (yours or a borrowed one, film or digital) under any conditions. To have skills like this you need at least a few years of location photography behind you and a ton of tearsheets as well as the education that lead to all of your experience.
