Default Best travel guides?

I'm going to London, Dublin, and Paris...was wondering on the best travel guides/book or maps for these places...I'm a student on a budget, so I heard Lonely Planet was good, but wanted more opinions...

I'm partial to Lonely Planet. If you are near a bookstore, why not spend some time in the travel section and thumb through the different guides? This way you can see which ones are most appealing.

I haven't traveled in Europe in years, but I remember for London and Paris - the A-Z street guide was indispensable.

Happy Travels.

If you know the hotels you're staying at, then I would go to Tripadvisor.com. Even if you don't know your hotels names I would still check it out since I believe they have travel guides for several destinations. Most people will include other helpful hints besides just the hotel rating in their reviews such as places to go, not to go, and things to watch out for. I use this website whenever I travel anywhere. Some people in the reviews will even include pictures or their email address in case you have any questions about the destination.

We were backpacking so space and weight was an issue. We got these little map books that were about 3x5 They had pop up maps of the city. They saved us from getting lost or finding our way back from somewhere more than once. They also had the Metro lines for the city. Frommers is really good. And if you are looking for really cheap. Just look online.. Pull off the info you want to see and then map it out before you go. you can make your own travel book..

I am a visual person so I enjoy the Eyewitness series of travel guides. In addition to the basic travel information and city guides, they also offer full color images of places and most importantly, the local cuisine.

I've used my Rough Guide to France for six years now and it's proven very informative and reliable until now - it's a bit bulky though if you're backpacking.

Get the rough guide, they tell it like it is. They also supply a lot of information for travellers on a budget. Hostels, very cheap places to eat with good food. I found all mine invaluable and wouldn't have even heard of some places without them. For instance, I went to Sharm in Egypt and went straight to the Sinai Star - really great seafood for very little. Wouldn't have known about it without the guide.
