If you get a train to either Glasgow Central or Queen St. They are both right in the middle of Glasgow city centre. It's probably the best way to go and isn't really that expensive I don't think...

You could also catch a really cheap flight into Glasgow Airport. There's a bus direct from the airport to the city centre. Flight's wouldn't take that long and would probably be really cheap, depending on when you were flying.

Ever heard of Easyjet and Ryanair? since when is a return flight of £20 a fortune?

Train Egham to London Waterloo; Underground Northern Line Waterloo
to Euston. Virgin Train London Euston to Glasgow. The cheapest fares will be those you book as far as possible for specific trains.
www.virgintrains.co.uk or visit the ticket office at Egham Station
