Default Pagans and Wiccans - are spirit guides and/or astral travel common in your faith?

Forgive my ignorance - I genuinely don't know. I have never knowingly heard a Pagan or Wiccan speak of their spirit guides or anything.

I move in some very mixed circles, some are more New Age than anything really, some are Shamans, some are old fashioned grumpy Witches, other are more strict whatever....I hear it from time to time, yes. It's not part of my own........thing.

I have spirit guides in the sense that there are several animals with whom I have had experiences that cannot be coincidental. I have not done astral travel though I know people who do.

Most of the ones I know who feel the need to tell everyone about their personal experiences, such as spirit guides or astral travel, are under the age of 15. I have some doubts as to their veracity, but it's none of my business anyway.

No, I have never experienced a spirit guide, nor astral travel. Others may have, but I understand it's a personal thing and I respect that.

Yes. as a hedgewitch a great deal of my studies involve shamanism in various forms. I have both spirit guides and power animals. The difference being that my spirit guides are specific entities who advise and protect me. Some said spirits take animal forms, which can be confusing. They help me find my way when I Travel, and they act as, well, spirits who guide.

My power animals are more like totems, they're not specific to any individual animal but representative of a whole species. Otter, for instance, reminds me to have fun and lighten up. Bear reminds me to have the courage to say "No" to things I know are wrong. Tiger reminds me to be live with ferocity and Moth reminds me to be silent and gentle when necessary. These are all animal qualities I can summon by calling on my power animals during times of need.

every Pagan and Wiccan has their own path. i know this seems weird, but it is true. each of us develops our own way of worshiping and of growing spiritually.

some have spirit guides - for many, those guides are animals. some do astral travel - some help others to do so.

i generally only talk about my practices of faith with others who are Pagan or Wiccan. if you are not Pagan or Wiccan, you probably haven't had anyone talk with you about their practices.

In my own belief system .. (as a Pagan with my own traditions) spirit guides are pretty important.. however, I don't hear them in my head at all times.. and it comes into play as a form of ancestor worship.. I believe astral travel is possible, although, it's not something I really care to try.

However, NOT all Pagans are going to believe the same exact things.. as there are many beliefs and traditions that fall under the name Pagan..
