Sterilizing breast pumping equipment at work or when traveling?

Avent instructions suggest sterilizing all breast pumping equipment before each use. For those who pump more than once at work or when traveling - do you always sterilize your equipment between pumps or wash it without sterilizing it? I've read some references that suggest the latter is ok if you use the milk within a week.

I had an Avent as well and I would sterilize it only in between non constant use (I used it quite a bit). If I had used it twice in the same day, I would be sure to let it soak in hot soapy water and I would use a clothe to wash it out. It sure saved me time and worked fine.

I used a breast pump. To sterilize, I used isopropyl rubbing alcohol or H2Ocean brand saline. If you do not sterilize, you can get a nasty infection in your milk ducts and nipple. *ows* Not lots of fun. So just grab some pre-moistened alcohol wipes that you can fit in your pcket or purse, but always wait until the solution has dried so that you will not get ny in your milk. Good luck.

i washed mine with hot soapy water.

Try medela quick steam bags. Rinse out the equipment if you can't wash it and put it in the bag with a couple onces of water and place it in the microwave for 5 minutes and walla. I usually sterilize evertime but a good clean with soap, your bottle brush and hot water will do the trick until you get home to sterilze it.

I always sterilized my equipment. And here's how: I boiled the water in a teakettle and soaked the equipment in the water. Dishwashers also sterilize. If baby is a newborn, I would pay much more attention to this than if baby is seven or eight months old.
