where can I find a travelling companion?

Well not me, but a friend of mine would like to travel the Americas and doesn't know anyone in a position to travel with.
He is a wacky personality with a very dry sense of humour most people just don't get, think Jack Dee!!!!
He is feelin a bit lost, without goals at the mo, and I know this is something he is wanting to do, but doesn't know how to connect with people of similar interests and means!!!
If anyone knows of any introduction sites for this kind of goal in mind, I'd appreciate the direction!!!!
He is a good friend and I want to help him out as best I can!

travelling with strangers has it's risks I agree, but surely there is a webiste for people who do this as often as poss....
and then they could get rated as a travelling companion,

It is probably not a good idea to travel with someone who is a complete stranger.

check this out. its somewhat related to your topic. my friend did this and its safe. you have a profile and you can look at the people you would want to "stay on their couch" and you dont have to pay them money or anything. because its like an agreement you just stay on their couch. but you can meet alot of people this way.

You might find someone if you try the sites that are set up for finding travel partners. There are trade offs between traveling alone and traveling with other people. Obviously, it's nice to have someone to share the experience with, and you might get exposed to some interesting things that you wouldn't have seen or done otherwise. However, when you travel on your own, you can be very flexible and see and do exactly what catches your attention. I often travel on my own when there's no one available to go. It's better than sitting at home and missing the experience.
