Bring sunblock and LOTS of medication (flu, fever, cough, indigestion, etc), cos it's very easy to fall sick in the heat.
Ask your doctor for advice on any jabs/special medication you should get at least 2 weeks before you leave.

Clothingwise: The best is to wear thin long-sleeved clothing and pants, or you'll burn in the sun. Bring good sunglasses that block UV rays too.

=)

Egypt is beautiful. My wife and I traveled to Egypt two years go. If you can visit Cairo, Luxor and Alexandria. Ensure you bargain as the locals charge a lot higher knowing one is a tourist. Besides that the Museum in Cairo is really good. Obviously ensure you see the pyramids (though try to go later in the day or early as it gets really hot).
Egypt is a lot of fun and we traveled without a guide etc. The key is to do the research on the internet. You can even book the best hotels etc sitting here on the web. A lot of good deals if spend the time looking.

Best of luck on your trip.

Drink enough water, eat enough salt in your food, try to avoid alcoholics as possible specially during the day or in hot weather. Enjoy your time as possible. If you are going to have any new friends choose good friends. Egypt is a different culture when you understand it you enjoy it otherwise your time will be complains and shocks that you keep ask yourself why this is happening to me.
Friends should be cultured and well educated ones not the waiter, barman or beach boy...etc. Sorry I hope I didn't offend you but I have to tell you that not to get hurt and later we see you posting things like those haters who try to insult Egyptians in their questions and answers. If you need any kind of help send me.

Welcome in Egypt and good luck

Be aware of those people trying to rip you of with your money.. Everyone in Egypt things forigner are rich so they rip you off.. Event the goverment will coraperate with them to rip forigner off..

So everything their will be expensive for you.. Hotel cost more money in Cairo than in Las Vegas. It's just becaus they do not get it.. That it's not because forigner have moeny that much you know..

Hotel for 200 dollars.. In New York you can sleep in a hotel or motel for 70 dollars.. that's ridiculous isn't it..

As August is one the hotter months i would advise that you bring plenty of high factor, waterproof sun-cream,swimwear,lightweight clothing,hat/visor of some kind, comfortable shoes/sandals,sunglasses& dont forget your camera! Come back & tell what part of Egypt & what hotel you will be staying & hopefully i can give you more information with regard to the area, where to go etc., travelling alone here can be intimidating for females!!

The reason hotels in Egypt cost more than in Europe and USA is the difference in the standard of living. In Europe a 2 stars hotel is maybe good enough. In Egypt a 2 stars hotel will be in a crowded area and will not be good enough. So you must upgrade the standard you are looking for. A 4 stars or 5 stars hotel is a must in Egypt. Also some think that Egyptians take advantage of visitors. The reason for thinking like that is a different set of conditions. For example in Europe and USA products carry commercial names, so the price of a product is almost the same in different shops. While in Egypt many things are hand made, in others words it is art. Art has no fixed price. Different producers put a different price tags. You may buy something and see later that in another place a looking similar object costs less. This happens all the time. But if you buy a brand object you will never feel cheated as the price is the same everywhere. Please do not judge other cultures by conditions in another place. this is the virtue of traveling, that is to say that you see different places with a whole set of different conditions. My advice to you is to trust your tourist agency and guide. You will get the best treatment if you trust them and go to places recommended by them, good luck and will like to hear from you after your visit.
