Even with gas prices we would save about $500 by driving and we wouldn't have to rent a car when we get there. The thought of being in the van with our 6yr old & 2 yr old daughters for five days is a little daunting to me. DH wants to camp along the way and take 7 days to travel each way. What do you think?

I have been on many family road trips and it really comes down to the wire when deciding on driving/flying. I would really leave the decsion up to my family even a 6-year-old! I have driven 4000+ miles to see family and i would say that the one advantage of it is seeing the sites (on the way) that you would never see in an airplane. So really it's your choice. Driving = site-seeing & family bonding, flying = conveinience & time.

I'd like to mount a campaign to encourage people not to go anywhere. Travel has become so expensive and unpleasant that it's hard to understand why people don't stay home.
Why are we crowding our highways and airports to get someplace else? Newspapers and magazines are filled with ads trying to get us to travel. They want us to go somewhere - anywhere but home. |
