Outside of the major, popular destinations (San Fran, Chicago, Las Vegas, NYC, Florida) what would be a good place for a summer, fun, long weekend getaway? Looking for suggestions in the U.S. only- beach not necessary. Hoping to get "different" locales with an even amount of cultural/dining/enterainment options. thanks!!
Outside of the major, popular destinations (San Fran, Chicago, Las Vegas, NYC, Florida) what would be a good place for a summer, fun, three to four day, weekend getaway? Looking for suggestions in the U.S. only. No camping of any sort or somewhere that I would have to rent a car to get around. Beach not necessary. Hoping to get "different" locales with an even amount of cultural/dining/enterainment options. thanks!! PS- I live in San Diego. |

San Diego is great, though expensive. Stay somewhere in the surrounding area, like La Jolla. We had a nice rented house overlooking the Pacific from the balcony.
But I mean, it depends on what you like. You also mention Florida and Las Vegas, for example. Those two places greatly differ from each other and from San Diego, and from NYC, etc. |

I think Phoenix, AZ is a great city that is increasingly becoming popular. There is a lot to do, especially for young kids/adults because of the big college campus there - ASU.
I also think Niagara Falls, NY is a good place to go. You can see Niagara Falls on the American side, and then walk over to Canada and see it from that side. There is tons to do just over the border in Canada that you can walk to from the U.S. Then you can not only visit Niagara Falls, but Canada too! |

Yellowstone National Park! It has so many things to see and do there! I went for 5 days and we didn't see all the things that there was to see! Jackson Hole isn't that far either so that's a great place as well, especially if you like shopping!
If you go to Yellowstone, make sure you see the LOWER FALLS! Its GORGEOUS! The upper falls isn't nearly as spectacular as the lower falls but its still pretty! I have some of the most amazing pictures of the Lower Falls that I took with disposable camaras but they look like they were proffesionally taken! (sorry, don't mean to brag!) I would definately go back! |
