Default Would you travel on an 8 hour flight in early pregnancy?

Knowing what you know now and how you felt in early pregnancy (first trimester), would you travel abroad on an 8 hour flight (each way)?

I know that the only reason they tell you not to fly late in pregnancy is because if you were to go into labor or have any issues, it would be a problem. But in early pregnancy it is typically okay.

My concern is more the naseaua, swollen ankles, etc. I don't want to be miserable. I know everyone is different, but in your opinion....Would you go?

from my experience while flying I do not see anything wrong with it during early pregnancy. i think it would be more comfortable than taking a long trip by car.

I think it would mostly depend on whether or not you have morning sickness, and if it is affected by traveling/motion. If you are going to spend those 8 hours vomitting, it may not be worth it. But, if that's not an issue, I would see no reason not to, as long as you and the baby are healthy :)

yeah why not its no big deal unless your doctor advises u not to, but in my opinion it should be fine travelling until the 3rd trimester.

Even though it's safe, I probably would have hated it -- would have spent the full 8 hours in the bathroom. And when not in the bathroom, trying desperately to get comfortable in those icky seats. I could barely eat regular food in the first trimester. Airline food -- not a chance.

But it would depend on one thing: was my destination worth the discomfort? If it was a business trip and no fun -- no way! If it was a vacation to somewhere great -- probably.

Yes just make sure you are getting plenty of water and getting up and stretching your legs LOTS. Also make sure you plan to SLEEP when you reach your destination. Lots of people get sick from flying (re-circulated air, jet lag, etc.), so as an expectant mom, you have to make sure you stay as healthy as possible.

But as my doctor told me at my 8-week visit: "You can do anything you want! You're not sick! You can work, fly to Europe, go for a hike...live!"

I wouldnt think it would be too bad.....it also kinda depends on how bad you have morning sickness.....but 8 hours is an awful long time to be sitting in the same position anyway. but then again once the baby is born your not going to be going many places on a plane lol so i would say yes i would go. Goodluck!

I wouldn't. Although it is safe until 34 weeks, you are in your 1st trimester and have other elements to think about. I was sick my entire first trimester up until 17 weeks and cannot say that I would want to deal with nausea, altitude and bloody noses. Eight hours is a lot longer than a flight that is a couple of hours long and you can't sedate yourself, so why try it?

Good luck on your decision!
