Why could this be? She has met a few people from Africa but said they werent very good people. Or could it be because she's black herself and just wants to experience new people? Well, Africans would be new but still, no desire. She doesnt even understand why she doesnt care to see Africa?

Why is it unusual that she has no desire to visit Africa? She probably can't name one ancestor of hers that was born there. Just like I have some german ancestry, but I can't name a single ancestor that was born there. I like travel, so I want to travel everywhere, but I have no more interest in Germany than I do in any other country.

Maybe it doesn't appeal to her right now. Why struggle with someone's undesire to visit a place on earth? I am hispanic with mexican roots, and I'd rather go visit another country other than Mexico, am I just as confused as she is? No, just doesn't appeal to me right now.

She might be African American but there is a lot more American in her than African. Why should she care about going to Africa more than any other person. I am Black ( I hate the term African American, as I have not come from and never saw Africa) and I too have no desire to go to Africa. It is a very dangerous part of the world today and there is little there that I wish to see.
The term African American is misleading. There are African Americans but they came from or their parents came from some country in Africa. I am a Black American and consider that my race was created here in America by America for America. I consider myself to be as Native American as any so called Indian tribe. I have ancestors that came from Africa but I also have ancestors that were Native American and ancestors that were White. I have no more connection to Africa than you do so why do you find it strange that your friend would not want to go there? Do you want to go there? why not? There's your answer. |

The only people that I know from Africa in the last 100 years are my daughter's great grandparents on her father's side. They came here from Cape Verde West Africa back in the early 20's. She and my cousin's son in law who was born in Africa are the only people that I know who can actually name someone in their family who came from Africa in the last century and who can say that they still have family their. I'm ( Afro-American) so called but I have family mostly from the Caribbean, Several Native American Nations and several White great grandparents. I have three daughters two of whom are multi-racial also but they have father's who weren't Black, but where of other races. Yet they are considered Afro- American because they have a Black mother. If I ever get the opportunity to travel I have no real desire to go to Africa per se. I would like to go to Egypt to see the sphinx and the pyramids and technically Egypt is in Africa but there is now country there that I can point to that says that's where my family comes from. I can point to Barbados and say that my family came from there or Native American Nations and say that my family comes from there. But Africa no I can't say that I have an over whelming need to go there. I would rather go to countries where my interest lie, I love the Mountains and I would love to go to Austria or Switzerland to see the Alps. I would love to see the Glaziers before they melt and the parts of the US where The Native American Nations where I have family live. Your identity come from more than just a race that was assigned to you by the goverment for reasons of tracking people.
