I will travel to Africa (DRC) with my cat and 2 medium size dogs (for a longer period of time). I know about the temperature restrictions in the US. Are the internationally flying planes different? Where can I get this information from? When we return, will the pets have to be quarantined? What happens with the dogs, when we have to wait for the next plane for 8 hours? Is anybody at the airport taking care of them?
We have nobody to leave the dogs with, we have no family here, except kids in college (they cannot have pets). We are going to be gone for 2-3 years. |

yes u can but it will cost A LOT of money.
i would suggest leaving them with somebody that already has a dog or someone that loves dogs because they will know what they are doing. when you fly with animals it is very unsafe. anything could happen to them and if you can't prove they are yours then they won't give them to you. |

Why in the name of all that's sweet and holy would you torture your pets like that?
They have to have shots, they have to be quarantined, they are shipped with cargo for endless hours, to end up in a totally new environment. I would take my cat to the pound before I would send her through that. |

Find out about Pet Passport (think there are various sites on this subject). My friend has one for her cat, and apparently it does make things easier (re quarantine etc) in most cases. Though, you have to start getting their vaccinations and various blood works ready a year in advance.
Would it not be advisable to perhaps phone the FDA in your country?Or you might try and phone the airline that you will be flying with. (face to face might be best-it will avoid you having to hang on for hours, while they try and find somebody to deal with your query) Another tip : Ask your local vet, BUT, also get a few opinions, as in most cases you could get some conflicting advice. |

MAYBE WOULD BE WISE TO GET A DOGGIE SITTER FOR THIS TIME OR LEAVE WITH SOME FRIENDS AND YES I KNOW THIS WILL BE HARD TO DO BUT MUCH SAFER THAN FLYING THESE DOGS ALL OVER AND WHO KNOWS IF YOU WILL SEE WHEN IN ANOTHER COUNTRY SOME PLACES EAT DOG YOU BEST DO SOME CHING ON ALL YOUR ISSUES BEFORE ALL THIS COMES AROUND GET ON WEB AND DO SOME RESEARCH.
