Yes, it is. You need to use your common sense, just like at home. Crime happens everywhere...like shootings in up-scale malls in the U.S., or in parking lots, even churches. We tend to worry about the crime far away and forget what happens in our own country. I persume you will not be seeking out the worst part of town in the places you visit, or dealing drugs, or taking part in other risky behaviors. If you have the opportunity to travel...Go! Enjoy it, stretch your mind and use your common sense.

Of course! However, do choose the countries or cities which are safer for travel. Would be silly to travel to Afghanistan or Iraq or Nepal or Tibet at the moment. Do your research on the internet.
Go for escorted group tours if in doubt. Everything is taken care of. You'll be pretty safe and get to enjoy your holiday. |

Just remember, most wealthy western countries are much safer than America. They don't have the poverty, the gun culture and the number of lunatics that America has.
If you are super worried about safety stick to western Europe, New Zealand, Australia, Japan, Singapore etc. and avoid countries with a lot of poverty, no law and order and are in a war zone. |
