No. I think if you would like to go to Mexico City, you should go with someone.

You should be just fine there by yourself.Start with a city tour on theTuri Bus.I'm sure your school can suggest several day trips to the many places in and around Mexico City as well. As far as your safety, your school should have an orientation and will discuss that with you.Living there, they are much better qualified to address that subject.Mexico City is a very special place, you will never forget your time there

See the links below for some suggested sights and day trips.
Have a great trip!

No, I live here and you can enjoy this city everyday. You can take care as any city, dond´t carry jewells, dond´t use cellular phones down streets, during night be sure to return home early with a friend and never in cab.
When you arrives you can anwer about more tips.
Place to see.....Museum Antropologia e historia, Xochimilco, San Angel, Coyoacan, take a turibus infront of Auditorio Nacional.
Smile!!

i'm mexican so you should know, don't. i know even if u go on a tourism travel thing it might be safe. but my mom, and spanish teacher, have told me that it's better to travel in groups.

especially if u go into a more rural area.

and it's sometimes good to have someone who can speak spanish for you. i'm gonna admit, we mexicans like to rip people off. if they see that u are a woman, and don't speak spanish, they found the perfect target to rip off.

remeber, POWER IN NUMBERS!!!!

adios

Well, you could start studying in the UNAM. It´s really good. If you´re interested in food you could go to a restaurant called Los Sifones. It´s really good. In my opinion, they have the best tacos!!! If you have time then, you could go to Cuernavaca or Acapulco.

Yes. My aunt goes on public transport every other day and it is safe. My recomendation is:

I recommend you go on a quick getaway weekend to:
Las Grutas de Cacahuamilpa and Taxo.

Mexico City: I recomend you go to El Palacio de Chapultepec and the 'Centro Historico' and Palacio de Bellas Artes. The 'Centro Historico' is almost like the center of the turistic area. There is so much trafic using public transport is best. School kids start their school day at 7:30-8:00 to avoid transport. Personally-use the metrobus, a new fancy transport that is brand new and is so much better than the metro.

not really. but my mom does it all the time, she wont let me go with her though, because its super dangerous. tips for safety- haha my mom keeps here money in her bra, and carrys a fake purse so if somebody is goiung to rob her they can just run off with her purse. Dont wear jewlery. make sure you have a driver (it sounds snooty but its safe and very cheap). my mom also keeps her hair tucked in her hat becuase she dosent want to draw attention to her red hair lol. As for things to do there, i hear the art galleries are AMAZING. have fun! : )
