Default Traveling with my PUPPY...suggestions??

Hello! My boyfriend and I are going on a road trip. This road trip will be about 5 days long. We are in no rush...just enjoying the mountains (NC to CO). We are going to bring our 12 week old Weimaraner along. We just bought a nice crate/kennel for her. I was wondering what all I should/should not bring? Any suggestions for play time?? Meals for her?? Or if you know of any cool places for us to stop??
Thanks!

Keep a dog tag on your dog at all times in the unfortunate circumstance in which she gets lost. If you have her microchipped, that's also very helpful. Always keep her on a leash if you're out, since being so young, I doubt her recall (come when called) skills are great and since she's heading off to new and exciting places, may bolt and otherwise become lost.

I've seen too many vacationing people lose dogs and it's very sad.

Instead of kenneling her for the road portion, you can also buy a seatbelt harness. That way, she'll have a bit more freedom and she can also look out the window.

Bring water and also a travel water bowl, and be prepared for carsickness too, lol.

this may sound silly but bring water from home for her some places may have well water or a different smell that will turn her off. Bring along enough food just in case you have a hard time finding her type(brand, flavor). Try to keep her on her normal feeding and pottying schedule.

i would try to keep to the same food schedule as you do at home, if you do have a schedule. i would stop at least every 3-4 hours for her to go potty and don't let her drink a lot of water on the road trip. bring some chew toys, maybe some that you can stuff treats into to keep her entertained for a little longer. otherwise just have fun, i assume shes still small so let her sit on your lap or roam around the car if possible. Have fun!

Definitely some good suggestions above - I recommend freezing the water into some cubes or blocks and let the puppy lick them during the day rather than drinking too much during traveling. No mess from spilled water too.

Also, a 30 foot leash. This gives the puppy room to run when you stop during the trip and they can run around without being confined, so to speak, and be a puppy. Lots of exercise but you maintain control because the pup is still on leash (and you don't have to run around like crazy because the pup has 30 feet to run around).

Bring enough of the dogs food or at least don't change brands on the road - could get messy....

Hope this helps....
