I am considering going to France (from the USA) for a business trip when I am 28 weeks pregnant. I will be gone a week. I have a normal pregnancy and my doctor has cleared me to go. Who else has traveled internationally when pregnant and what was your experience? I worry that my stress of the long flight and trouble adjusting to time zones may harm my baby. Anyone know anything about France? I am aware it is a developed country and people have babies there all the time, but are hospitals easily accessible and is the care good? For example, if I went into labor at 28 weeks, would they have the facilities to take care of a preemie baby?

France has an excellent and advanced health care system. They have the same facilities as you would find in the USA.
Be careful of what you eat... European (particularly French) cheeses tend to be unpasteurized, which can put you at risk for food borne illness such as listeriosis. Make sure that you call the airline and clear your travel through them. Some airlines have regulations regarding travel when you are pregnant. Also, consider purchasing additional travel insurance. |

I traveled to Morocco for a month, while I was 5 months pregnant. My doctor cleared me to go also. I took any medications with me that I might've needed, something for diarrhea, heartburn, constipation, etc. Also, I got a prescription for an antibiotic from my doctor in case I needed it, you'll also need an emergency number that you can reach your doctor at any time of the day. On the plane, just make sure you get up and walk for about 10 mins every hour. It's dangerous to sit in one place for a long period of time. You should be just fine. There is excellent medical care in France, it's a very well developed country. Good luck.

French medical facilities will be as good if not better than those you will find in the US (though make absolutely sure that your travel insurance covers maternity when travelling this late in pregnancy). And be aware that the people there speak French. Not English. (yup, sounds obvious...but trying to give details of your needs, while in labour, to someone who doesn't speak more than a few words of your language, might be more stress than you'd want).
