Default Travel by freighter with Dog.. question?

Thanks for the helpful information..

Does anyone know what the conditions are like on freighters?? I'm a 22 year old female.. will be travelling alone. When someone says freighter I picture a bunch of scrubby men.. is this safe for me?
I would be taking one from China- Canada (if I can even manage to find one!)
So how appealing is this option?
How do u know for sure? like i said.. im 22 so Im a little hesitant. But its either this or fly my dog and im not to keen on that.
Do they have bedroom or shared bunks? I really dont know anything about freighters lol.. could i walk around on it or be stationed in my room the whole time?

I haven't experienced a freighter cruise yet, but you might find some useful information from this site for a journey from China to Canada. Just a note, this site does not offer direct passage all the way to Canada. But you might be able to go to California and from there get a land transport going to Canada.

For even more information, and possibly more companies that offer freighter cruises, try this site - http://www.geocities.com/freighterman.geo/mainmenu.html

I do have to say though that it seems travelling this way is way more expensive than going by plane. But I do understand your concerns because of your dog. Hope you find a way to work it out.
