American 3G (I mean North and South America) uses UMTS 850/1900 band for 3G, so an American version would use those. Europe and Asia use UMTS 2100, but almost all GSM phones use GSM 850/900/1800/1900 for voice calls. However, phones in Japan and South Korea MUST use UMTS 2100 because other bands have been phased out in those areas. So for example, if you buy the American one, it will work in Europe and Asia but you will not be able to get 3G, just like the European/Asian one will work in America, but it will not be able to get 3G in America. But on Nokia's website they say that the 8GB model works on UMTS 850/1900/2100, so it will be able to get 3G service in America, Europe, and Asia.
