travel by sea: how to??

Can we go from Chennai to Bangkok & back by sea? how much would it cost? how much time does it take? what r the options? what documentation would be needed?

Any idea?
Update: Need not be to bangkok.. Any place from India to another place.. basically more like a backpacking trip by the sea... :)

Sea journey is much more expensive than air travelling but surely you can. Search the cruise boats, you'll get one, but usually takes a month and somewhere between 3-5,000 US dollars. About documents, same as air travelling; visa and passport (actually the name passport invented from Sea Travelling :- Pass Port!

Join as a crew on the cargo ship. Check the qualifications needed.
