someone told me that online travel bookings, once made, can't be changed. Is this true?

depends on the website you used and their policies. Each has different ones.

Well u know if u think about it in theory they cannot be changed but they changed it in my case my international online travel booking without no questions asked which is unheard of with the fees. They canceled the whole thing just like that. It went poof. But a couple days later I did another online international booking with them. They accepted it. It just pays when u make travel bookings, always be sure about it. I have never ran into that in my life before I am happy that I did. They were very understanding and compassionate when I talked to them. This happened December 2007 when airlines tickets were so expensive. I paid about $1400 just remebering about price but it was worth everything in gold. The other one cost nothing to cancel and to change. That plane ticket cost about $932. They didn't blink to cancel and change. They just did it. I am happy that I am still their customer. Alot of online travel bookings are hard to change without adding fees to them but they do change them for u if u need them to.In this case Nothing happened to me about any fees. It is not possible to get fees unless of some reason about them. Be careful when u do book though. Please make sure this is what u want before making it final. When they changed this for me, I was so happy. Gave me some time to get even more ready for what I did experience in a foreign country. i am happy I booked with them and got this experience. This overseas experienced has changed my life for the better. I gained something from this new family. I will be booking again my online travel resvervation with them again in a couple days to travel internationally again. I am happy with them doing online travel reservations.
