Getting There by Rail
From London and Berlin it is possible to travel by rail to Chisinau, either via Bucharest or Warsaw. Tickets are very inexpensive between the latter countries and Moldova, and there are the options of second-class four-berth sleeper carriages or first-class with two berths. There is a bar car selling snacks and drinks, but no restaurant, so take your own provisions along http://www.worldtravelguide.net/country/175/international_travel/Europe/Moldova.html Travel by Rail Rail travel is one of the most popular ways of getting to Moldova, with the easiest route being from London to Paris, from Paris on to Vienna, Vienna to Budapest then finally from Budapest on to one of the regular services to Chisinau. There are regular services to the capital from Moscow and Odessa, and less regular services from Minsk and St Petersburg. I use Austria's rail site to plan schedules. It's very easy and has info for all of Europe.
http://www.oebb.at/en One route is to go through Paris, Munich, and Budpest for the first half. You could go from London to Brussels, Brussels to Zurich, then Zurich to Budapest. or Brussels to Berlin, then Warsaw. or Brussels to Prague to Chisinau. From Budapest there are options that take you through Romania or through Ukraine. If you go from Poland, you'd also go through Ukraine. There are lots of options and a number of train changes, but it can be done. I looked them up on oebb.at/en and there are too many choices to list, not knowing whether you want to go straight through or make stops. Budapest to Chisinau would cost about 80 euros. Warsaw to Chisinau is about 57e. Brussels to Warsaw is about 165 e. Paris to Budapest about 209 e. Brussels to prague is about 148 e. Prague to chisinau via Krakow and Lvov is 74 e.
