I know people that used the one in Alaska, it was a bit on the expensive side but they enjoyed it, said it was nice so . . . . if money is not the deciding factor, I would have ot say yes it is a good way to travel.
You car wont be contributing any emissions while it is on the train, helping the environment a small bit and the train was already going there so from that standpoint it is a good choice. |

I've ridden the Auto Train many times, and enjoy the trip. The cost of the trip depends upon whether you book a sleeping compartment and what type. If you go coach, the price is pretty reasonable. The trip takes about 17.5 hours.
Some friends of mine have compiled a website that has a whole section devoted to the Auto Train. It should answer any questions you have. The website is www.on-track-on-line.com and then click on "Auto Train Travel Hints" on the left side of the screen. The website isn't operated by Amtrak, but does have some very useful information for potential Auto Train riders. |
