Is the auto train a good way of travel?

Does anyone know if the Auto train is decent or not? It goes from VA to FL. Anyone experiences or knowledge?

The Amtrak Auto-train is very expensive. I liiked into it in early 2003. At that time it was over 1,000 dollars - - - ONE WAY!! Considering the distance driven, you should be able to make the trip in @12 hours with nice rest breaks.

I know people that used the one in Alaska, it was a bit on the expensive side but they enjoyed it, said it was nice so . . . . if money is not the deciding factor, I would have ot say yes it is a good way to travel.

You car wont be contributing any emissions while it is on the train, helping the environment a small bit and the train was already going there so from that standpoint it is a good choice.

I've ridden the Auto Train many times, and enjoy the trip. The cost of the trip depends upon whether you book a sleeping compartment and what type. If you go coach, the price is pretty reasonable. The trip takes about 17.5 hours.
