It's a looooong trip from Butterworth to Bangkok and you don't want to do it by coach. It takes about 20 hours by train but at least you can walk, sleep and eat.
You might save a couple of hours by coach but you'll need a couple of days to get over the aches. Even if you take a VIP coach; you'll reach Bangkok with your head up your butts. For the record, flying could be only a little more expensive but definitely worth it. |

I went from BKK to Pennang (georgetown if i c\recall rcorrectly),via train i can not rewcall the price, but it was cheap c. 20 GBP and a very very comfortable sleeper with clean sheets ets. As I recall it was fantastic in comparrison to indian railways and only a little more expensive. Hope that helped
