Hi
I'm doing my tax return and I want to know if I can claim my train travel. The office where I have worked for the last 2 years made us all self employed so i'm still working there but as self employed. . Can I claim my travel to that office and on the same token can i claim for staitionery etc when i'm still in my work office? (i hope that makes sense)I'm a bit unclear on the rules Thanks in advance Has to be for the UK... thanks |

You cannot claim for anything, but if you include all the costs associated with your self employment in your accounts, this will reduce your tax bill.
You should have been keeping accurate records of all yuor expenditure, along with receipts, tran tickets, etc. Then you need to add up all these expenses to produce your end of year accounts. This is then transferred to youor sef assessment. |

Yeah, the UK is a bit different than the U.S. when it comes to taxes and such. You should give them a call and ask but before they can answer, remind them about the time they taxed our tea.
That might shake 'em up enough to allow you to write that off this one time. :) |

Sounds like a bit fraudulent to me. You can't suddenly become self-employed and keep on doing exactly the same thing for the same outfit at the same place as you were employed.
That aside, because of the length of time you have been at the one place, you cannot deduct your travel costs. Stationery is a bit different - that should be OK. |
