Your best bet would be travel-cards either singles or 3day travel-card. You'll need a separate rail ticket for Legoland, as that is in Windsor to the South West of London. Use the TFL website to plan your journeys and see what is the best options.

children travel free on London Transport ... but depending on their age you might need ID ... read this page for more information http://www.visitlondon.com/travel/getting_around/kids-travel-free-on-london-transport

both Gatwick and Legoland are outside of the tube network so you would need train tickets for this ... again very young children travel free ... for all rail journeys you can get times, prices etc on http://www.thetrainline.com/buytickets/? ... for such a short journey I don't consider it necessary to pre-book tickets

personally I wouldn't recommend the Gatwick Express train, I consider it overpriced ... the cheapest trains from Gatwick to London ae either the Southern trains into Victoria http://www.southernrailway.com/ or the First Capital Connect trains into London Bridge, St Pancras etc http://www.firstcapitalconnect.co.uk/Main.php?sEvent=HomeCommuter ... which line you would use depends where your accommodation is ... there are also coach transfers from National Express http://www.nationalexpress.com/home.aspx and Easybus http://www.easybus.co.uk/london-gatwick

around London I'd recommend either a travelcard or Oyster card for the adults ... http://www.londontoolkit.com/briefing/travelcard.htm and http://www.tfl.gov.uk/tickets/faresandtickets/visitortickets/5185.aspx

for Legoland it's just half an hour from London Paddington to Windsor & Eton Central, via Slough on the First Great Western ... or direct from London Waterloo to Windsor & Eton Riverside on South West Trains ... again which train line you choose will depend on where you're staying ... there is a shuttle bus service to the park from stops close to both rail stations ... please note that this is a chargeable service and is not operated by the Park ... the first bus leaves Windsor at 10am and the last bus leaves 30 mins after the Park has closed

have a happy visit !!

Both Gatwick Airport and Legoland (Windsor) are outside the London travel zones so you will need to buy separate tickets for these journeys.
Within London buy an off peak one day travelcard each day for use on the Underground (Subway), buses etc.(the kids might not need travelcards - depends on their ages)
From Gatwick Airport to central London there are 3 separate rail operators: Gatwick Express from Gatwick to London Victoria every 15 minutes taking 30 minutes. Southern Trains (Cheaper than Gatwick Express) running 4-5 times per hour to London Victoria taking 33-38 minutes, and First Capital Connect Trains running every 15 minutes to London Bridge taking 30 minutes (also operates to Blackfriars/Farringdon/Kings Cross on weekdays)
To travel to Legoland from London either go to Waterloo Station and catch an SWT train to Windsor; they run every 30 minutes and take 55 minutes or go to Paddington Station and catch a First Great Western train to Windsor (change at Slough) They run frequently and take about 35 minutes. There is a shuttle bus from close to both Windsor stations to Legoland. You can also buy a combined rail/shuttle bus/Legoland admission ticket from the station ticket offices at Paddington or Waterloo
