how much does it costs for travelling in a train from Rome to Florence?

I am so confused - some sources (such as the lonely planet) says it costs about 20 Euros - but when visited rail europe, the price is much higher.

You are right, the price is higher but it depends on the train you take. (the 16 euro train takes double the amount of time, so it might be worth paying out) Also book 2nd class.

a train from Rome to Florence will cost you about 20-25 € if you travel with Eurostar. It's about 1 hour and half and you will arrive in the center of Florence (near the Church Santa Maria Novella).

There are different trains, the faster the more expensive.
From Rome to Florence you could take a regional train, it is slow but the price is really interesting (16 euros). Intercity is more expensive, and the AV is the most expensive (even 39,90 euros!) I suggest the regional or Intercity.
