Yes...it only takes about two hours.

Don't know about the cost though.

I guess it would depend if it is a single or return trip, also weekend or midweek.

Salzburg's train station, the Hauptbahnhof, is centrally located. From Munich to Salzburg is about an hour and a half long train ride. The Station is operated by both the Austrian Federal Railway Company (OBB) and the National German Railway company (DB). Both companies have ticket stalls and machines in the station. The popular train pass for Bavaria sold by DB (in German: Bayern Ticket) also covers train rides between Bavaria and Salzburg. The rail pass can be brought from DB ticket stalls as well as DB Ticket Selling Machines in the station. You can also buy tickets using the DB and OBB websites (2nd and 3rd links below).

The cost is about 20 to 40 Euros. Usually about 25 Euros.
The time varies between 1 1/2 to 2 hours.

There is no highspeed track between Munich and Salzburg. Direct trains with no intermediate stops take 1:27/1:28 hours and have an average speed of 100km/h or 62mph. The prices vary dependend on the train taken and the advance booking .
The direct Railjet train ticket costs €33.00; Eurocity/Intercity train tickets which take up to 103 minutes with up to 5 intermediate stops cost €29.00; those tickets may however also be purchased in advance on the DB website at a saving fare of €19.00.
Tickets for regional trains which take between 114 and 126 minutes and have up to 14 intermediate stops are offered at €25.50.

If you plan to use regional trains you may get a so called "Bavarian ticket" which enables travel to Salzburg on regional trains. It costs €20.00 for a single person or €28.00 for a group of up to 5 persons.

BTW: The thumbs down are not based on the quality of the answer but just by stupid trolls who are unable to provide good answers themselves and therefore thumbing down everybody else.

takes about 2 hours, its a pretty regular service. book early to get a better fare,
if you plan on a night out in munich and getting a late train from munich to salzburg (the latest one I got on was about midnight) then STAY AWAKE. theyre old trains with really comfy seats, some of the trains go much further than salzburg, and you could end up in zagreb or sarajevo depending on how much bavarian hospitality you've sampled,
