How long does it take (time wise) to travel through the Severn Tunnel on a regular train journey?

I went through it once and it seemed terribly long and panicked me. I'd feel better if I knew how long It was going to last if someone has timed it or something and knows?! lol.

The Severn Tunnel is about 4 1/2 miles long and I have travelled through it many times. I have timed it with a stopwatch and it takes about 3 minutes 40 seconds.

Btw I don't like long tunnels either!

I live in Bristol and have travelled through the tunnel hundreds of times. The fastest I've ever been through was in 2 mins 59 seconds. Usually it's more like 3 mins 30 seconds - depends on any temporary speed restrictions that may be in place and what type of train you're on. If you're on a Paddington-Cardiff/Swansea it's quicker than if you're on a Bristol-Cardiff stopper, the little 4 wheelers take over 4 mins.
