You can travel alone on a train provided you are tall enough to reach your ticket from the machine when you buy it. If you were really young - say 4, maybe your legal guardian couyld be charged with neglect but the actual act of travelling alone is perfectly legal.

In the UK, you can travel unaccompanied on a train from the age of 5 upwards.
Like with buses, many children use trains to travel short distances to school every day. It would clearly be nonsensical to require them all to be accompanied by adults paying full fare. |

No.
There is no minimum age for travelling on your own on a train. They even sell child fare tickets for you to do it. Thousands of under 16s travel to school on trains every day and they are unaccompanied by adults. Having said that, they would probably question it if someone less than 10 (or looking younger) tried to travel. Also, if a bunch of under 16s starts to misbehave (which can happen with immature kids) they may be thrown off at the next station and their parents called. |
