I also thought that MET officers got free travel within 70 miles of London. Not sure if that's still the case and doesn't explicitly state on their website www.met.police.uk. A season ticket from Reading to London terminals is £335.30 a month. The basic salary for a PC after training is £31068. If you need further info the careers office number is 0207 161 0706, they should be able to answer if you get free travel or not.

Police officers get free train travel on production of their warrant card, but this facility is offered only on the understanding that the officer will assist the train crew if asked to do so.
I don't think you'd get a warrant card straight away, you'd probably have to wait until you'd "passed out", until which time you'd have to pay your own fare. |

Met (and City of London) officers (but *NOT* Specials, Traffic Wardens or civilian staff) officially get free travel up to around 70 miles from London on production of their warrant card.
First Great Western accept them for London - Basingstoke (via Reading), Bedwyn, Bicester Town, Banbury, Henley on Thames, Marlow, and also Reading to Redhill/Gatwick Airport and Southampton to Portsmouth/Brighton, and at all intermediate stations. South West Trains accept them as far as Andover and Southampton, but *NOT* on the Isle of Wight. |

The only members of the Police who are allowed free travel are British Transport Police providing they are on duty.
Met do get free travel but within 70 miles out of London, whether that covers Reading im not sure, i know going north its as far as Stevenage. Why not see how the MET pay for their season tickets, they may have a scheme where they could take a certain amount out of your salary |
