Can Police officer travel free on trains? By showing their ID?

pretty sure they can.

Only if they offer it first if the police officer ask for it then it is considered corrupt and unjust. so i would say if they have a deal like half off or something like that and you don't ask for it then its ok.

I think this went out with the ark. Police and armed forces were allowed to travel for free but it was abolished in the 60's I think.

The Met Police can travel free within something like 60 miles of London. But the privilege has been paid for by the Met to encourage recruitment.

So I was told by a Met Officer.

Police can travel free on the train if it's an emergency and it's necessary for the prevention and detection of crime.

If they make a routine journey in the course of their duty they get issued a warrant the same as Armed Forces.

i'm not sure if they can travel in long distance trains. However, they can travel if they are traveling between their home and work...
they can travel that way when they are on duty.
for example, a policeman is sent from erode to chennai for election duty, he need not book tickets. he can get into a train and travel for free..
