By train - Florence to Paris will be a long haul - you are going through several countries - I would suggest you fly from Florence to Paris. I know personally Paris to Madrid is an overnight trip by train.
It all depends on how much time you have - if you have the time and want to see the sights - then as you go from Florence to Paris - you might want to get off the train if you want to see a famous travel site and tour there & eat & shop and then get back on the train. I did extensive train travel a few years back and it is nice to see the countryside but you get tired being on the train all day - nice to stretch your legs. Also you have to be careful when you travel at night - people have been robbed while they slept - I paid extra and got sleeping compartment from Paris to Madrid and really enjoyed that experience. I bought book with the train schedules in Europe and figured out the time it would take and also bought a book with suggestions as to what to see on the way which helped me enjoy my trip in Europe by train. Have a great time!! |

Florence to Paris takes between 11 and 13 and a half hours depending on the train(s) you take. You can check schedules and prices here: http://www.trenitalia.com/en/index.html. One good option for doing this is the night train that leaves Florence at 8:53 pm and arrives in Paris at 9:10 am. It's the only direct train; other options will require a train change. You wouldn't be able to see so much, but you can sleep through the night, save the cost of a hotel, and use the daylight hours for sightseeing.
For Paris to Madrid: http://www.voyages-sncf.com/dynamic/_SvTermCommVoySaisie?_TMS=1210398617600&_DLG=SvTer mCommVoySaisie&_LANG=FR&_AGENCY=VSC. There's also a night train from Paris to Madrid that takes 13 hours 28 min. There are other options, but you'll have to make 1 to 3 train changes. A good resource for planning train travel throughout Europe is the German train website: http://reiseauskunft.bahn.de/bin/query.exe/en. You can't price or buy tickets for all the routes, but the schedules are comprehensive and accurate. |
