There is not one direct train except the Eastern and Oriental Express which is a 5-star hotel on tracks. Regular passengers change trains at Butterworth (Penang). You can see that you have a long wait of 8 hours at the ferry side Butterworth station. You might want to break your journey up. It'll be a 2-nighter on the trains.
1. Is it safe? Yes there are no obvious risks. Just obvious precautions like unattended valuables. 2. No. Indian passport holders require a visa to be obtained at a Thai embassy or consulate in advance. 3. 1 day, 2 nights 4. Bai Yok Tower, The Grand Palace, Day trips to the crocodile farm and The Ancient City, a plethora of shopping alternatives. These are some. The following website gives times and prices. It is not fully comprehensive. http://www.seat61.com/Thailand.htm#Singapore |

Yes, it is very safe compared to buses and you need not worry about this...
From KUL, get the Express Langkawi which leaves KL Central at 8pm DAILY. It will arrive Padang Besar station at approximately 10am and that is where you go for the immigration counter, get your stamp, etc. Price of ticket is about RM50 per way (I do not remember what the price is like but it is about that). From there, you'll get to Hatyai and arrive around 12pm/noon (eventhough the ticket will tell you that its scheduled to arrive at 10am, usually). Then, you'll have to get a ticket IMMEDIATELY right after that, from Hatyai station to Hua Lumpong Station/Bangkok. It should cost you about the same amount of the bus fare (approximately 800Baht). It leaves 3pm onwards and arrive Bangkok at around 10am... Another alternative is to take the E&O Express, which will cost you to burn a hole in your pocket. I've never taken this before and you might want to find out more about it if you're interested. Hope this helps... There are MANY sightseeing places in Bangkok. Just check with any of the tourist websites for a start. Hope this helps and good luck! |
