if u are from overseas ur best bet will be to get a jr rail pass these can be brought from travel agents in ur country they are anything from about 100 pounds to 230 depending on how many days u want to used them. trust me this is far cheaper than getting the pass in japan. it will cost 100 pounds for one ticket. it is very expensive in japan and also the jr pass will let u go on any jr train in japan so u wont need to get extra tickets unless u go on other networks in japan then ur best bet is to get a 1000 or 3000 yen pass as the train journeys are very expensive. regards terry.

Hi,
If you are not planning to buy the pass because it limits your use to a certain number of days, you can try the following website in English to check ticket prices: http://grace.hyperdia.com/cgi-english/hyperWeb.cgi Key in you start and end stations and select your "Charge fare" (seat type: reserved/unreserved/green). Check the fares in the table. For total fare, add up "fare" + "charge". This amount is also reflected under "total amt of money". Alternatively, you can check fares here but this is only for the JR Central. The fares are only for shinkansen between Tokyo and down south to Hakata ie. Hikari/Kodama/Nozomi trains. http://jr-central.co.jp/eng.nsf/english/fare_surcharges |
