which is a safer and cheaper way to travel long distance, bus or train?

I want to plan a trip to visit my boyfriend who lives in Georgia ( i live in New jersey). I have never took a plane before and i am looking for other ways to travel.

fly.....the world of bus riders is a little creepy and the train takes too long..

I try to do the same, that is, instead of flying taking alternative methods of travel. I would take the train if I were in your situation. I think buses are too confining and crowded, and the toilets are not the greatest. Trains aren't usually as full and you can get meals on board. They do take a while, but if you don't want to fly I'd say take the train.

Any method is safer than a bus!! Buses are full of weirdo's, perverts and miscreants and the bus stations are a good place to get scammed or roughed up. Sure some bus stations are OK but traveling by bus is, in my opinion, the worst way to travel. The buses stop at every little podunk town they go through and it takes forever to get anywhere. Plus the seats are uncomfortable. Trains are a lot of fun - especially if you get a sleeper car or even a roomette. And of course there is always flying. Flying is the safest method and you will get there much faster than any other way and that's an advantage.
