I would opt for 5 (or more) year missions. Its not feasible to keep traveling, and never come back. I'm assuming I'm flying under the colors of a nation or space organization, which leads to reason, the entity that had financed the building of the ship, assembling the crew members together, and testing all the systems on board (life support, artificial gravity, weapons system, etc...) will not only want periodic status reports to be transmitted back to earth every week (or daily), but they'll likely want me to bring back specimens, and new life forms, if feasible.
How would you feel if you had spent trillion$ of dollar$ to build a star ship, hire and assemble a crew staff, and send them on a long voyage, only to later realize, they're never coming back. Wouldn't you conclude you've just wasted trillions of tax payers' (or the corporations) money ??
