Mass Effect PC Problem in Space Travel?

I have already been granted Spectre Status and went to the Galaxy Map for my next mission. But whenever I activate it, it would start to only show the map level detail, like Widow. It does seem to respond to zooming out of the map to me controlling my character again, but it just keeps happening. What's wrong? How should I fix it?
I forgot to mention that I could see, for a brief moment, the Galaxy Map whenever I zoom out, so no cracks about it being illegal.
I've managed to see the galaxy level and star system levels, but I'm still having problems with planets. This is without the patches or cracks that the first two answers suggested.

I can't be real sure what you are asking. It "does" or "doesn't" seem to be responding. You are left-clicking to zoom in, and right-clicking to zoom out, right? Right-click enough and it should return you to your character. I ran into quite a few glitches in that game, but nothing like what you are talking about. I kind of think... you don't completely understand it. When you return to the Normandy from being on a mission in the 6-wheeled shuttle you are inside the ship with control of your character. You go up to the map and activate it, and it will show you FIRST OF ALL the planet (moon, asteroid, another ship) you were at just before you left to go on the mission. You have to back out of it all before you can go to another place. I thought that was a bit annoying myself. Why can't the player just have the open galaxy map to begin with, since you are wanting to go somewhere else anyway, not land back on the same planet. Maybe this helps; I don't know. Download patches if you can. There are lots of glitches that need fixing in that game anyway. I never did because I have dial-up. Probably would have taken a week to download.
