String-Theory and Space Travel?

Do you think there are an rational applications for string-theory in our broad-based exploration of the universe? How could they be applied to supplement what we already know?
Does the possibility of the black-hole dynamics of "branes" make you optomistic as it refers to gauge theory?

No application of string theory has been found yet. Practical or impractical.

No one knows yet.

String theory posits numerous dimensions of space beyond ours. If we could find a way to access those dimensions there could be possibilities. Accessing those dimensions (if they are even there) however is difficult to the point of seemingly impossible.
