Apparently, Superman does not need to breathe, and this allows him to fly in space without having to wear any kind of oxygen mask. When there are others traveling in space with him, he does wear a mask with a built-in microphone so he can communicate with them.

I think he needs to breathe, its just that the stupid people weren't thinking that far through or something. I specifically remember one chapter where he almost drowned. lol. Ohh well... maybe I'm just being delusional. But I sincerely think that he is breathing, just not breathing air (haha!!!! that makes no sense though). lol. Ok.... this isn't gonna start making sense anytime soon so maybe i should just stop typing for now. lol. Bottom line is that yes, he can somehow travel through space without feeling any pain.

it depends on which era's Superman Your talking about, because for a stretch between 1960- 85? He was given the ability essentially play a one man Baseball game w/ planets, thus explaining the 'rewind earth' Ending in the 1978 film
Most modern Superman tales have him needing an Oxygen tank or space ship for major travel, and getting by w holding/controlling his breathing for near orbital flights. |
