Default How far into space have living cells travelled?

Is there any chance we have left some on the moon - any way they could survive on board our mars rover pods? Can they drift far from the edge of the atmosphere?

during the apolo programs in the 60s a camera on one of the space craft had malfunctioned , to make a long story short they brought it back from the moon and come to find out a technition who was buliding the camera has sneezed into it and had a cold , the bacteria had survived the trip. scientists were able to add a little water and the bacteria came back to life like nothing ever happened, saw it on history channel !

Probes to Mars are deliberately sterilized. The Surveyor 3 on the Moon had encysted bacteria discovered. Apollo 12 landed next the the Surveyor and removed and brought back its camera, on which the bacteria were found.
It is possible that the Pioneer 10 and 11 and two Voyager spacecraft had bacteria on them, and that these have encysted and are surviving. We'll never know, as all four have long since left the Solar System. Perhaps in a few hundred thousand years someone or some creature will recover one and find they were made by beings using DNA.

One of the Apollo missions landed near a lunar probe of ours (Surveyor) and they brought the camera. They found streptococcus on the camera which grew after it was placed in favorable earth conditions.

Well, they are traveling out of this solar system as I write this. According to Space.com, some rocket stages from the rocket they are sending to Pluto are traveling through space at speeds of 7-11 miles a second. Scientists don't know if the bacteria will survive the trip through space, but they think it would be interesting if the rocket stages landed on a planet and started to thrive. Though, they say the chances of that are very, very slim, but it would still be cool.

There are probably a few surviving bacteria on Voyager 1 about 9 billion miles out.
