Default Space travel?

What was the first devise to travel past all the planets. It launched in 1972 and its first signals back were in 2003.

I believe Voyager 1 was the first man made object to travel beyond the solar system but I don't think it's first signals were received in 2003. I think it broadcast intermittently since it's launch.

Ima have to go out on a limb on this one...isn't it Voyager 1 and 2? or at least Voyager 1. Be nice to know if Carl Sagan was a part of this or not...

Seriously, I don't know. I would have guessed Voyager but I know we got information back from it long before 2003.
