Any information on travel to Chile from the US?

When is a good time to go? What sites are must see?

It's best to go from November-March. The weather is the best during those times as it is the Southern Hemisphere's Summer. During the middle of those times, be careful because the thieves are in full force during tourist season.

As for things to see, I'll copy my post from another answer:

-In Santiago: Cerro Bellavista- the view is beautiful.

-Valparaiso: a quirky and colorful coastal city set upon 45 hills. You can get there by bus from Santiago (2 hours).

-San Pedro de Atacama: touristy and expensive, but beautiful views of the desert. Also not far from Salar de Uyuni in Bolivia, the world's largest salt flats which is a breathtaking landscape.

-Pucon: a quaint mountain town with a beautiful lake surrounded by black sands. You can climb Volcan Villarica near the town or cross into Argentina to see Bariloche.

-Torres del Paine: a hiker's paradise with unparalleled mountains
