Default At a deep sea station that is 200m below da surface of da pacific ocean workers live in a highly pressurized..

environment. How many liters of gas @ STP must be compressed on the surface to fillt he underwater on the surface to fill the underwater environment wiht 2 X 10 to the 7th power L of gas @ 20 ATM. Assume constant temp. pleast tell me how to do the work as well tahnx =]

P1V1T2 = P2V2T1

if temperture is not a factor , this simplifies to :

P1V1 = P2V2 (Gay-Lussac's law)

(1atm)(V1) = (20 atm) (2e7Litres)

V1 = 4 e 8 litres

Boyle's Law. P and V are Inversely proportional at constant temp. P1V1 = P2V2.

10m of water = 1atm.
200m = 200/10 = 20atm.
= 10 million Litres at 20atm.
P1V1 = P2V2
20atm x 10 million L = 1atm x V2
V2 = (20 x 10) / 1atm.
= 200 million Litres of air at STP required.
