Default Are there hurricanes in the Pacific Ocean and why don't I ever hear about them if there are?

I want to know if there ever have been any. I know the atlantic is warmer than the pacific and thats why there are more over there. About how often are there hurricanes in the pacific?

Actually, I think the Pacific is warmer than the Atlantic but don't quote me on that.

They have hurricanes, but they have different names for them. Monsoons or typhoons. All forms of "tropical cyclones"

Check that, a monsoon is something completely different. So just typhoons.

I think hurricanes in the Pacific are called typhoons. I don't think we hear about Pacific Ocean disturbances because our media is so "East Coast" focused.

Yes there are hurricanes in the pacific. In fact, there's one right now. Google "hurricane watch" and look at http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/ and look at Hurricane John.

You don't hear about these because they mostly travel over open water away from mexico and baja california and towards hawaii.

The Pacific Ocean off the coast of California is colder than the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of Jersey. They have hurricanes in the Pacific but they call them Typhoons.

Its in the far east and India that hurricanes are better know as: "Monsoons rain season" or typhoons. Tropical cyclones when they are below 75mph. And whithin the west coast of the USA: Hurricanes.

There are lots of hurricanes in the Pacific as well. They are called tropical cyclones or typhoons, a translation from Chinese as Big Wind. A strong one hit China just a few weeks ago. You don't hear a whole lot of the hurricanes from the Pacific because they tend to hit Asia and Australia instead of the American West Coast.

The Pacific, so named by Magellan because during his voyage it was more peaceful that the Atlantic has its tropical cyclone season between May to December.

Hurricanes in the Eastern and central pacific are called, well, hurricanes. Once over the dateline and in the western pacific they are known as typhoons. there is one right now called Ioki with 160mph sustained winds around it's center. Beside Australia and in the Indian ocean they are known as Tropical cyclones.

You never hear about them because the USA is the most insular country in the world outside North Korea.
