If an astroid had a diameter of 10km at the point of impact on earth, it would wipe out ALOT of life on earth. They say the astroid that killed off the dinosaurs was roughly 10km wide..so you can imagine the damage if another one were to hit the earth.

An asteroid of this diameter (6 miles or so), would be a question of how much life would be left on the earth and in the oceans, never mind the minor detail of the coastlines!
