North east coast is the Atlantic ocean, the Pacific is on the west coast, yes there are lobsters found on the California coast but no where near as many or as big as Maine lobsters. They are green instead of the red ones that are on the east coast.

North-eastern Pacific lobsters (found on the west coast of the US) are known as Spiny Lobsters and do not have claws. North-western Atlantic lobsters (found on the east coast of the US) are Maine Lobsters and DO have claws.

Squat lobsters are known in the seafood industry as Langostino, although some restaurants try to pass them off as Lobster (see Long John Silver's "Lobster Bites")
