The surface of the oceans varies widely. Some parts of the Pacific ocean are over 35000 feet deep. However, no-one will actually swim down to that depth without being in some vehicle. Also, people don't normally swim below 30 feet without some type of air supply. If they did, there is a good chance they could develop "the bends" in the time they would take to surface for air.

the deepest point in the pacific ocean is 36160 feet in the Marianas trench. the deepest point in the Atlantic is 28681 feet in the puerto rico trench. they train people to swim in thirty foot of water cause if u can swim in thirty foot u can swim in water at any depth it is just a depth they picked i am talking of course about surface swimming as far as scuba diving that's a different ballgame u can only swim so deep before the pressure would crush you
