No, not the entire Pacific Ocean (your friends told you wrong), but the west coast of the U.S. With the water level down as it is now, the shoreline has diminished somewhat, but at full pool level, Lake Powell has 1960 miles of shoreline. It's 186 miles long, but with all the side canyons you can explore the place for days and days and not see it all.
A wonderful place. We haven't been there since we sold our boat and we miss the place terribly! (Oops! Just noticed you've been there, too, so you know what I'm talking about!)
